For 40 years I studied the Holocaust. I was looking for the poison root of the German tree. Just this past year I realized that it was a poison root of the human tree I’d been looking at. I kinda felt bad for looking side eye at Germans all these years, as I realized this insanity could happen to anyone. Now I see it’s happened to Israel. It’s important to be clear that they’re not acting this way because they’re Jews. They’re acting this way because they’re human.

Look; my life is a 24/7 carnival compared to the lives of any poor devil who happens to be a resident of Gaza.
So, that said; and at the relatively not-so-serious level at which many Haaretz readers live:
OF COURSE I feel elated that these Argentinian geezers got rescued!
And at the same time I grieve even more deeply for the Palestinians--50+ non-militants out of 62 total?--killed in the process.
It's rough when your feelings are pulling in 2 opposing directions.
It's rougher when your thoughts are in conflict with your feelings.

Unraveling the Paradox: From Evil to Goodness
In a mind-bending twist, evil's grip gives birth to goodness! Netanyahu & his government, labeled as extremists, paradoxically become catalysts for Palestine's progress. They pose as adversaries to their own nation, Israel, while paving the path towards peace.

Powerful imagery and ending prose. It's all apocolyptic, not just for the blinding scale of loss, of death, of maiming, but for what this portends for the future. Palestinians were dehumanized long before this war - if these pieces can be put back together in a just new way, Israel must contend with it's own actions of the last 75 years of ethnic cleansing, occupation and brutal oppression. Mutual humanity, acknowledging and coming to terms with past traumas, on both sides, in order to build a shared cooperative existence, the only hope for a better future both Palestinians and Israelis. The occupation corrupts both sides humanity to the core.

I’m holding back forming an opinion until I hear what LeBron has to say.
